Compare shipping costs across USPS, UPS, and FedEx. Calculates dimensional weight and finds the cheapest carrier.
Last updated: February 23, 2026
Shipping carriers use a combination of actual weight and dimensional (DIM) weight to determine your shipping cost. You are always charged the higher of the two, which is called the "billable weight."
Dimensional weight reflects how much space a package takes up relative to its actual weight. It is calculated as: Length x Width x Height / DIM Factor. UPS and FedEx use a DIM factor of 139, while USPS uses 166, making USPS more favorable for lightweight, bulky items.
