Text Case Types Explained

Different text case formats serve different purposes in writing, programming, and design. Here is a guide to the most common case types and when to use each.

Writing Cases

• UPPERCASE: All letters capitalized. Used for acronyms, headings, or emphasizing text. Example: HELLO WORLD
• lowercase: All letters in lower case. Common in URLs, email addresses, and casual writing. Example: hello world
• Title Case: First letter of each major word capitalized. Used in headlines, book titles, and formal headings. Example: Hello World
• Sentence case: Only the first letter of the first word is capitalized. Used in body text and most UI labels. Example: Hello world

Programming Cases

• camelCase: First word lowercase, subsequent words capitalized with no separators. Standard for JavaScript/TypeScript variables and function names. Example: helloWorld
• PascalCase: Every word capitalized with no separators. Used for class names, React components, and type definitions. Example: HelloWorld
• snake_case: All lowercase with underscores between words. Common in Python, Ruby, and database column names. Example: hello_world
