Chinese financial characters (大写 dàxiě) are the formal uppercase forms of numerals used on checks (支票), bank transfers, invoices (发票), and legal financial documents in China. They prevent fraud by making amounts harder to alter — for example, 一 (one) could easily be changed to 二 (two) or 十 (ten), but 壹 cannot be easily modified. Required by Chinese banking regulations and the Accounting Law (会计法).
