Unlike the Pomodoro Technique, Flowtime doesn't force fixed intervals. Start working, and when you naturally lose focus, press the break button. Your break length is calculated based on how long you worked:
The Flowtime Technique is a flexible time management method created by Dionatan Moura as an alternative to the Pomodoro Technique. While Pomodoro uses fixed 25-minute work intervals, Flowtime lets you work for as long as you can maintain focus β then calculates a proportional break based on how long you worked. The core idea is simple: respect your natural focus rhythms instead of interrupting them with a rigid timer.
Start a focus session and work on your task without any countdown pressure. When you notice your concentration slipping β you reach for your phone, start daydreaming, or feel mental fatigue β stop the timer and take a break. Your break length is proportional to how long you worked: shorter work sessions get shorter breaks (5 minutes), while marathon focus sessions earn longer rest periods (up to 15 minutes).
Flowtime builds self-awareness about your focus patterns. By tracking how long you naturally concentrate before needing a break, you learn your own rhythms. Over time, you may notice that you focus best in the morning, or that certain tasks hold your attention longer than others. This data helps you schedule your most demanding work during your peak focus windows.
