Grading systems vary dramatically between countries. The US uses a 4.0 GPA scale, Germany uses a 1.0–5.0 scale (where 1.0 is the best), the UK uses degree classifications (First, 2:1, 2:2), and France grades on a 0–20 scale. This tool converts between these systems using a normalization approach.
Each grade is first mapped to a universal 0–100% scale based on its position within the source country's grading range. A 100% score represents the highest possible grade; 0% represents the lowest. This normalized score is then mapped onto the target country's scale to find the equivalent grade.
Some countries like Germany and the Philippines use inverted scales where a lower number is a better grade (1.0 is excellent in Germany). The converter accounts for this automatically, ensuring correct cross-system comparisons.
This converter supports 16 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Germany, France, Nigeria, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Philippines, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
Grade conversion is inherently approximate. Different universities, even within the same country, may use different scales or conversion tables. Many institutions publish their own official conversion guidelines. Always verify with the admissions office of the target institution before relying on any conversion for applications.
